The Lincoln Aviator had the 4.6 liter double overhead cam. Although being a powerful engine matched to a 5 speed transmission, this motor is alleged to have had problems with its aluminum heads and at around 60,000 miles according to research done on multiple forums for the vehicle, some owners, were told that their motor needed a complete motor job. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be subject of a recall from Ford, leaving owners to negotiate with their local Lincoln dealer in the hopes of being reimbursed for the cost.

Originally, the Aviator was supposed to be on hiatus for the 2006 model year, reappear based on the Ford CD3 platform. However, Ford scrapped the Aviator name, and will be replaced by the mid/compact-based [[Lincoln MKX]] [[crossover SUV]], which was unveiled at the 2006 North American International Auto Show. The MKX will be available for sale in the fall of 2006 as a 2007 model.
