The BF Fairmont shared changes with its Falcon sibling including the upgraded 4 litre Barra and the Baffra V8 engine and the new 6 speed German engineered ZF Automatic gearbox producing better fuel consumption of 10.2 litres per 100 kilometres for the 6 cylinder version. The Ghia gets German designed Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control with the Controlled Blade Independant Rear Suspension found in the BA Fairlane G220.

This model was the last Fairmont produced. It was replaced with Ford's new G-Series Falcons and the V8 model was replaced with the more efficient turbocharged version.
