The Honda Accord Hybrid was launched in 2005. EPA estimates are 25/34 mpg for city/highway driving. A real time mileage survey of more than 75 drivers on greenhybrid.comconfirms a blended average of 30 mpg. The Accord Hybrid somewhat competes with the Toyota Camry Hybrid. The two vehicles are reflective of the differing objectives of each respective automaker. The Camry Hybrid is clearly made for economy rather than power and performance. It has just 147 HP but manages EPA estimates mpg of 38/40.

The Accord Hybrid makes 253 HP from a 3.0L V6 derived from the Honda Odyssey minivan and an electric motor with Integrated Motor Assist (IMA)™. Performance bests that of the naturally aspirated V6 Accords. The Accord Hybrid can shut off 3 of the 6 cylinders under certain conditions for better fuel economy, a technology that Honda calls Variable Cylinder Management (VCM)™.

Recent Changes
The Honda Accord Hybrid retains unique exterior styling elements, even after the 2006 model year freshening. The decklid spoiler, roof mounted whip antenna and aerodynamically styled alloy wheels remain. New is the revised dual exhaust with finished tips and another pair of Hybrid specific tailights.

Styles and Major Options
The Honda Accord Hybrid has one four-door sedan body style with front wheel drive.
Unique Attributes
The Accord Hybrid has 253 HP, faster acceleration than the regular Accord V6 sedan from 0 to 60 miles per hour and better gas mileage figures. When coasting and cruising along at low speeds, the engine can operate on just three of six cylinders. The engine shuts off at stoplights, restarting instantly when the driver releases the brake pedal, much like the Honda Insight. A separate compressor keeps air conditioning blowing when the engine is in its temporary off mode.

Resale Values
Criticisms
Fuel economy gains? What fuel economy gains? You won't really notice any if you compare EPA values from 4 cylinder models.

Current Generation: (2005–present)
The Accord Hybrid debuted in 2005, priced at the top of the Accord lineup. It was restyled for 2006, to match the rest of the current generation Accord models. This generation dates back to 2003. Notable differences are revised tailights and a dual exhaust with finished tips.

Design quirks and oddities
The Accord Hybrid wears an exclusive front chin spoiler, rear diffuser, tailights and rear decklid lip spoiler. Hybrid gauges supplement the interior. The V-6 engine with Integrated Motor Assist (IMA), operates somewhat similarly to the system used in the Honda Insight. In the Accord Hybrid, however, cylinder deactivation is utilized in low power conditions.

Welcome to Wikicars!
Hi there, 0-172, and welcome to Wikicars! I'm a regular moderator and contributor here, and when I notice on the recent changes log that a new editor has registered, I like to send them a welcome message - that's how I ended up on your talk page.

There are a few useful links that you might want to look at, designed to help newcomers to Wikicars learn the ropes:
:* About Wikicars
Here are a few templates on Wikicars that I find particularly helpful when I start a new page:

Here are a few features of Wikicars that I find particularly helpful:
:* If you leave a message on a talk page, you can sign it with four tildes (~), which will automatically produce your name and a date stamp when you save the page.

:* The "Show preview" button allows you to look at what your post will look like before you save it - that way, you can proofread what you've written and not have to back and correct spelling mistakes, failed links, etc.

:* You can create a watchlist for yourself that will keep a record of any changes made to a page that interests you.

There are plenty of other features and facets of Wikicars, many of which I probably haven't even discovered myself, so have fun looking around and finding them.
Your Wikicars Concerns Answered
Hello Michael,

Thank you for all you concerns with the Wikicars site. I appreciate your enthusiasm to jump in and fix things and your keen eye for detail, and those are the exact same qualities we look for in our administrators here. Since you are interested in an administrative role on the site, I'll pass your name on to the rest of the moderators.

Being a new wiki, we used some of the content from Wikipedia to get us started, but we'd rather not take all their content verbatim. Rather, we'd like to develop on it and delve three or four levels deeper. In doing so, we did not create info boxes at the time of launch, because it would have been a bit more involved to decide which models get info boxes and which don't. As you are well aware, the automotive industry is such a melting pot of brands and vehicles, that it would have been difficult to classify certain vehicles as just one category. Be that as it may, it is a wiki-based community site, and we are open to all kinds of suggestions and edits.

I, myself, am not all that familiar with the makes that you mentioned were missing form the site. We can build a portal for foreign makes and exotic cars, which I'm guessing a vast majority of these cars are. If you have any other concerns about the site, let me know.

Thanks, Michael! -Nidhi 21:39, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism/Inappropriate content
I know. =( This continues to be a growing concern on our end, too. We're in the process of implementing a automated wiki-filter that will revert those changes and ban the IP address or member for such offensive behavior.

As for the Talk:Main Page/, that is "creative spamming." Some dedicated spammer is going out of their way to implecate new spam on the site. Thanks for the heads up! =)
Lucky! did you happen to see the Altima Coupe? How about the Ford Mustang Giugiaro Concept? 0-172 7:19, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Yepp! Wasn't very impressed with the Altima Coupe. Looks a lot like a G6 Coupe from the back and the Maxima from the front. I wonder if they'll make a hardtop convertible, as well. I did like the Mustang Giugiaro concept, though. Very sleek and chic! Nidhi 22:47, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Hmmm...Interesting. What about the Mazda Nagare Concept and the Volkswagen Tiguan? 0-172 4:40, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Liked the Tiguan! It's like a "Mini-Me" version of the Touareg. It's hard to pass judgement on Mazda's Nagare Concept. It's definitely sleek, I have no idea what the interior will be like, so I guess we play the waiting game and we'll see what happens. -Nidhi 21:51, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
I need your opinion on this 0-172, i'm thinking about dividing the maserati coupe and spyder into two separate articles. it just seems like it could be made cleaner that way. what are you thoughts? oh and by the way, im not the only newcomer here. I've managed to coax all the boys at modern and classic automobile discussion forum (not really all that difficult when you're dealing with auto enthusiasts) to help out and contribute to the car/article of their choosing. Anyway, thanks for the welcome. If you would like to check our little community, it's www.atfreeforum.com/mcad.

:Yes, seperating the coupe from the spider would clean things up, but one problem is that they are essentially the same car. You could possibly seperate the article into two sections. One section for the coupe, the other for the convertible. With two sections though, you would have to have an infobox for the coupe and one for the convertible. I did notice a few other new contributors, but your massive amount of contributions caught my attention. 0-172 4:39, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
I have another question: where is the redirect button in the edit page? it would make searches far more convenient, i think.
I have a quick question. Are we going to have pages for people involved with the automotive field? Out of curiosity, I searched for some people (Giovanni Michelotti, Giorgetto Giugiaro, Carrol Shelby) to find that no pages have been made to list their achivements.
:That's an excellent idea! It makes sense to have such a section dedicated to important people in the automotive industry: past, present, and future. If you want to get started and create such pages let me know and we can build out a separate portal and category for this. Hi Argen, nice work on the classics! I'd be inclined to not list all the discontinued makes on the home page-- there would be so many. Could we group them in a prominent classics section instead? What think? LuvWikis 14:54, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
The Toyota 4Runner is a traditional sport utility built on a rugged and proven truck frame. It is very capable in handling off-road conditions as well as being refined enough for an easy drive around town. Noted for its quality construction, durability and reliability, the 4Runner has come a long way from its beginnings in 1984. Now with a roomy and comfortable interior packed with the latest technology, the 4Runner provides all the luxury comforts of a daily driver for the outdoor enthusiast.

Performance and Handling
The Toyota 4Runner's standard 4.0-liter V6 engine is responsive, and never feels lacking. This engine is packed with the latest technology, including fully variable valve timing, a linkless electronic throttle, and lightweight all-aluminum construction. It's rated at 236 horsepower and 266 pound-feet. The optional 4.7-liter V8, introduced for 2005, represents a huge improvement over the V8 it replaced. It's smooth and tractable and never struggles when thrust is needed. The V8 features variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) and electronic throttle control with intelligence (ETCS-i), turning it into a real performer. It's rated 260 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque, and adds about 190 pounds to the weight of the vehicle.

Both engines are paired with a sophisticated five-speed automatic transmission. More gears means better response for any given situation along with better efficiency. The transmission is equipped with Artificial Intelligence Shift control, which changes gear-shifting patterns according to driving conditions and driver intent.

The 4Runner handles very well for a truck with a live rear axle. The suspension damping is excellent. Rack-and-pinion steering gives the 4Runner quick response and good steering feel. The ride on unpaved roads is smooth, which is important on long gravel treks over washboard surfaces. The 4Runner's well-tuned damping and progressive-rate spring bumpers are to thank here. Where the 4Runner really comes into its own, however, is when the terrain gets truly gnarly. There's lots of suspension articulation for climbing over boulders and gullies, and a host of technology for handling steep, slippery grades.

A limited-slip differential, optional on many SUVs, is standard on even 2WD 4Runners. The two-wheel-drive models are impressively capable on rugged terrain; indeed, a 2WD 4Runner is more capable off road than many all-wheel-drive SUVs. For ultimate traction, however, you do need a four-wheel-drive model.

All 4WD 4Runners come with Toyota's Downhill Assist Control (DAC) system, which controls the speed when creeping down steep, slimy grades. Shift into 4WD Low, check to make sure DAC is activated, pull to the edge of the nearest precipice, take your feet off the pedals, and steer your way slowly down the trail. Once you make the leap of faith that comes with allowing the machinery to do the work for you, Downhill Assist works very well and is easy to manage. The antilock brakes make a noisy "dunk, dunk, dunk" sound as the system lowers the 4Runner safely down the slippery slope. Gently touch the gas or brake pedals to slow or speed your progress, then take your feet off the pedals again, and the system comes back on: "dunk, dunk, dunk, dunk." DAC helps keep the 4Runner pointed in the direction you steer it, using ABS to curb the tendency for the vehicle to get sideways on steep descents. The system will work continuously for three minutes (because the brakes will heat up with prolonged use), but Toyota officials say it only needs the shortest of breaks to continue. Three minutes is usually more than enough time to get to the bottom of the sort of extreme descent we're contemplating here.

All 4Runners, 2WD and 4WD, come with Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), which is designed to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward or slipping sideways when starting off on a steep ascent. The system uses the brakes to stop an individual wheel or all wheels, whatever it takes to keep 4Runner running forward.

The optional rear air suspension offers improved ride and performance when towing or hauling heavy loads. The air suspension automatically adjusts the ride height according to vehicle load. The driver can also manually raise the rear suspension when driving off road to increase the ground clearance and improve the rear departure angle. This latter feature is useful in the extreme conditions, but most owners will never go there.

X-REAS improves handling dynamics on the road with no compromise in off-road articulation or travel. X-REAS reduces the tendency of the vehicle to bob up and down in corners and improves handling by damping body pitch and roll. A simple system, it links the shock absorbers diagonally through hydraulic lines (e.g., the front left shock is linked to the rear right shock). A central control damper helps keep the system in balance.

Gas Mileage
According to the EPA ratings, The 2 wheel drive V6 version of the Toyota 4Runner gets the best mileage at 18/22. The 2 wheel drive V8 gets 17/20 and the four wheel drive V6 gets 17/21. The worst gas mileage goes to the four wheel drive V8 with 16/19.

Safety
The Toyota 4Runner is available with the following safety features:
*Traction Control ABS & driveline
*Electronic Stability stability control
*ABS 4-wheel anti-lock brakes (ABS)
*Front Impact Airbags driver and passenger
*Occupancy Sensor occupancy sensor
*Side Impact Bars side impact bars

Reliability and Maintenance
The Toyota 4Runner is noted for its quality construction, durability and reliability. Regular scheduled maintainance should keep it running problem free for many years. Toyota also provides a warranty that offers:

Basic Coverage: 36 months/36,000 miles (all components other than normal wear and maintenance items).
Powertrain Coverage: 60 months/60,000 miles (engine, transmission/transaxle, front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, seatbelts and air bags).
Rust-Through Coverage: 60 months/unlimited miles (corrosion perforation of sheet metal).

Interior and Comforts
The Toyota 4Runner cabin is roomy and comfortable. It's highly functional. The quality of materials and they way they fit together is good, and loaded models are quite luxurious. Overall, the 4Runner cabin looks traditional SUV.

The standard cloth is nice, and the cloth seats in the SR5 and Sport Edition are comfortable, with side bolsters to keep the driver in place when cornering or driving off road. All seats offer adjustable headrests and three-point seatbelts, and the driver's seat adjusts eight ways, manually on the SR5 V6 and powered on all others. The driver and front passenger sit up high, as one expects in an SUV, yet flatter to the floor, as in some low cars like a Ford Mustang. The driver's legs stretch out, rather than down, toward the pedals.

A two-tone dashboard houses the instruments. Gauges illuminate orange, set in three deep binnacles that prevent the front-seat passenger from reading them. The fuel gauge uses an inclinometer for accurate readouts when the 4Runner is tilted in the rough. Automatic climate control is standard on all models, while the Limited comes with his-and-hers dual-zone temperature controls. The fan, airflow and temperature controls, are big and easy to locate; they are long on design and a little awkward at first, but become easy to use with familiarity.

The stereo buttons are easy operate. The Auto down button for the power windows is illuminated but the central lock button is not and can be difficult and awkward to find in the dark. A display located just above the climate controls reveals time, ambient temperature, and trip data. A 115-volt AC power outlet is available, a real bonus in the backcountry.

The rearview video camera works incredibly well. The navigation system is among the best, intuitive and relatively easy to use. The ultimate stereo system is a 360-watt JBL Synthesis setup with 10 speakers and controls integrated into the steering wheel. Standard on SR5 and Sport Edition is a six-speaker AM/FM/cassette/CD stereo with MP3 and WMA capability. An all-new universal mini-jack port connects to most portable music players.

The optional third-row seat adds an element of flexibility. It's actually two separate seats that fold up to the sides of the cargo compartment, parallel to the rear side windows. These seats are easy to stow, and access from the curbside rear door, via a spring-loaded sliding mechanism on the second seat, isn't too difficult.

Cargo space is designed well. The second-row seats can be folded down with the headrests in place. The seat folds nearly flat, flatter than a Ford Explorer's, and the seatbacks are reinforced to support heavy loads. The cargo area includes structurally attached steel tie-down hooks in the floor, with additional hooks on the sides. A clever double-decker rear storage shelf helps organize cargo in two levels. Using just one hand, the collapsible shelf can be folded flat or lifted up easily. When deployed, it's rated a sturdy 66 pounds. A large storage box is provided on the right side of the cargo compartment. Storage bins are provided in all four doors, and every seat gets a cup holder.

Exterior
Styling changes to the Toyota 4Runner add still more visual muscle to its big and burly façade. The trapezoidal grille remains, but now it slashes into the bumper below; and one big, bold horizontal crossbar has replaced the two slimmer bars used previously. Foglights are now standard, and they hunker down in squared-off foxholes. The more massive and bumpy front bumper sets a chunkier theme that continues through more prominent overfenders and body cladding. Headlights and taillights have been more subtly re-shaped, with the teardrop effect of the former slightly exaggerated.

More than ever, the 4Runner looks off-road rugged and ready to hit the dusty trail. Backing up that contention are skid plates for the engine, transfer case and fuel tank, all of which come standard. (Even 2WD models get the engine and fuel tank plates.) A molded-in step adds a functional look to the broad rear bumper.

Visual cues help distinguish among the three trim levels. Bumpers are body-color on all three models. On SR5, however, grille, door handles, and the license-plate trim are chrome, and running boards are painted black. The Sport edition retains the hood scoop and is further distinguished by a smoked-chrome effect in its grille and headlamp trim, and by a graphite-and-black roof rack. Tubular side steps replace the SR5's running boards. The Limited looks almost military with its body-color grille, black roof rack and black running boards (which are illuminated). The standard aluminum-alloy wheels have six spokes on SR5 and Sport Edition; five on Limited, and they grow from 16 inches to 17 to 18 as you move up the line.

4Runner's windshield, side windows, and side mirrors are made of hydrophilic glass and repel water like a waxed car or a window that has been treated with Rain-X. The glass causes water to form large drops, which are quickly shed by gravity or wind. The side mirrors are angled out to increase the driver's field of view. The available moonroof includes a two-stage wind deflector designed to reduce wind noise when traveling above 55 mph.
There are a large number of organizations that provide automotive safety information to consumers, such as Consumer Guide and most recently Edmunds .

However, there are a few things consumers should know about recent changes to airbag systems (both front and side):

Front Airbag Systems
All airbag technologies are not created equal. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently enacted a rule, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 208 for Advanced Airbags (effective for all US vehicles manufactured beginning with model year 2006), and it requires all OEMs to install technology that detects front passengers based on a classification structure, e.g. Child Seat Restraint (rear or forward facing) versus adult. These systems better protect occupants from front airbag deployment injury.

To avoid front airbag deployment injury to children, they should always sit in the rear of the vehicle and be properly restrained in a seatbelt or Child Seat Restraint. FMVSS-208 does not alter the US government's laws on children riding in the rear of the vehicle.

In addition to protecting children from deploying front airbags, consumers should consider how front airbag deployment impacts small stature adults, including the aging population. Consumers should know what type of FMVSS-208 front airbag technology is in their vehicle (for model year 2006 and beyond). To find out the answer, request a vehicle brochure from the dealer or print one from the brand's website. Look for wording, such as "adaptive", "multi-stage", and "dual-stage" airbag system. These systems will not only deploy based on the occupant's classification, but also based on the speed of the crash.

Side Airbag Systems
Side impact crashes accounted for 23% (approx. 10,350) of passenger vehicle occupant deaths in 2003, according to NHTSA. Unfortunately, side airbags are not required by NHTSA. Installation and coverage is solely up to the discretion of the OEM.

So consumers should consider purchasing vehicles with "standard" side airbags/side curtain systems or purchasing the "optional" side airbags/side curtain systems. Avoid vehicles that do not offer side airbags. See Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for vehicles with side airbags

Side airbags are successful in protecting occupants in rollovers, ejections and side impacts. Most recently, NHTSA required OEMs to improve side impact protection in FMVSS-214 (beginning phase-in with model year 2009). Protecting the occupant's head has become a serious concern. Fatal brain injuries are caused by vehicle intrusion, which is the main cause of death for occupants struck by a larger vehicle in a side impact crash.

The "side affect" to side airbags is the potential to injure miss-positioned or out-of-positioned occupants (especially children and small stature adults). Side airbags deploy close to the occupant. Slight miss-positioning from braking/evasive maneuvering or out-of-positioning from sleeping/leaning too close to the airbag can result in side airbag deployment injury.

The impact of a side airbag deploying into the head or neck region of a child or small stature adult can cause fatal injury to the spine.

Honda and Acura vehicles are the only vehicles sold in the US that control both the front airbag deployment (based occupant classification) and the side airbag deployment for children and small adults (based on occupant position). For more information, see Honda's safety site:

The best reasons to buy a hybrid:

1. Pollute Less. Hybrid cars produce up to 90% fewer emissions.

2. Reduce Oil Dependency. Hybrid cars generally achieve 15% to 30% higher fuel efficiency.

3. Support Future Hybrid Development. Every hybrid car sale expands the market, encouraging further investments by automakers in developing hybrid technology and building manufacturing capacity. These investments lower future prices of hybrid cars, creating a virtuous circle.

4. Save Money. Resale value is incredible! Insurance is 10% cheaper. Gas is 10-50% less. Maintenance is solid as these cars are very well made. The IRS has adopted large tax credits for purchase of new hybrid vehicles. The credits have a current maximum of $3,150. Note these are credits-- dollar for dollar tax savings-- not merely deductions. The credits vary by model (See Hybrid Tax Credits). The law that created the credits limits its availability to 60,000 vehicles from each automaker; meaning credits for popular models will be gone before the tax breaks scheduled Dec. 31, 2010, expiration date.

5. Why Not? Hybrid cars are just as comfortable and reliable as "regular" cars.

6. To Use The Carpool Lane. In states such as California, Arizona and Virginia, some hybrids qualify for single-occupant use in carpool lanes. (This is controversial since it can "clog up" those lanes.)

7. Efficiency. Better gas mileage, much faster and stronger braking, better torque up short hills.

At the risk of heresy, here are good reasons to wait on buying a hybrid vehicle:

1. Hybrids cost more upfront; Sticker price along with taxes including sales and license fees tend to be 10-30% higher, usually about $3,000 or more. Whether you make this difference up depends; on 1) when you sell it 2) resale value 3) your income tax situation 4) how much you drive 5) your insurance company 6) the state you live in 7) how you finance your vehicle 8) where you take it for service 9) what type of warranties you bought 10) where you park and how you commute. A study of typical consumer showed that most did not calculate these economic variables, and bought hybrid for image related reasons.

2. Hybrid vehicle choices are limited, but expanding dramatically every year; waiting may be better. Larger and less expensive hybrid cars, trucks, and SUVs will become available.

3. Hybrids on the market today rely on gasoline, for which there is no synthetic substitute (unlike diesel engines, which can run on bio-diesel).

4. Car battery disposal, when the car eventually is retired. There is no known methods on the disposal and could potentially create dangerous environmental impact. The 12V batteries in all cars are highly recyclable since the infrastructure is very well in place, unlike the newer batteries used in hybrids.

5. Extra weight and usually lack of performance in terms of acceleration and speed. Heavy cars require more energy to move, and greatly affect safety and handling. The Camry hybrid is about 300lbs more than it's counterpart.

6. Real world mileage is lower than the EPA estimates.

7. It takes more energy to manufacture a hybrid than to a regular car. Compare the energy consumed by a HUMMER and a Prius over their entire lives (including the gas they will consume), a Prius will consume more than a HUMMER.
The existing Honda Accord sedan is a fine car. The Honda Accord Hybrid model offers six-cylinder Accord beating performance with four-cylinder Accord like fuel economy. Honda Accord Hybrid comes at a price premium that places it in competition with entry-luxury sedans. Honda has equipped the car for such cross shopping. After wading through glossy scribes of how technically advanced this car is, you'll be happy to know this car actually drives well. Smooth and potent power is delivered through the drivetrain almost imperceptably. The extra torque and speed inherent to the Honda Accord Hybrid becomes readily apparent, after driving "lesser models". The Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system smoothly delivers when needed and is nearly impossible to detect when it isn't. Variable Cylinder Management (VCM)™ technology has been borrowed from the Honda Odyssey minivan and adapted for Hybrid use. The system can shut down half the V6's cylinders in cruising mode, using the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system to assist in low power cruising conditions.

The Honda Accord Hybrid is the perfect hybrid for people who value power and pace of outright MPG. It also makes it easier for people to enter the Hybrid world, without compromising on valued attributes such as brisk acceleration and quiet refinement.

See also Honda Accord Hybrid fact sheet.

High Points
* Powerful acceleration
* Additional torque provided by the electric motor
* Nearly seemless operation

Low Points
* Lackluster mileage (for a hybrid)
* Costly (the Accord Hybrid is comparable in price to entry level luxury models)
* No Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) offered (at the expense of economy)

Performance and Handling
Most of the weight of the hybrid system is over the front wheels. Honda has adjusted the Accords suspension to compensate for this additional weight. The front springs and dampers were given a slightly firmer rate, even though these changes are difficult to notice from driving a regular V6 powered Accord. The electric motor provides 90 percent of its 100 lb-ft peak torque at less than 4,000 rpm, which has a noticeable effect on the feeling you get when you press the accelerator pedal liberally. The Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) acts as both a generator (for the battery pack) and a power booster. It captures wasted heat energy caused from braking and stores it as electricity in the small nickel-metal hydride battery pack. When you call for more power (by pressing down on the accelerator pedal), the electric motor (mounted between the gasoline engine and the five-speed automatic transmission) provides its 16 hp and 100 lbs-ft of torque.

Slightly wider tires do not aid traction, but do aid in the economy effort, at the expense of handling. The low rolling resistance tires clearly point to economy but seem out of place with the performance offered in the Honda Accord Hybrid. They have difficulty providing traction on wet roads. These tires, combined with a switch to an electric power assisted steering rack make for numb steering feel. Performance minded drivers will be disappointed.

Reliability and Maintenance
Interior and Comforts
Leather-trimmed heated seats, climate control, Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), traction control, and side curtain airbags are all standard. The Accord Hybrid also has extra noise-damping equipment, to combat the intrusions from the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) powerplant.

The only option on the Honda Accord Hybrid is a touch-screen satellite-linked navigation system. It offers voice-operated commands, just like in the Acura TSX. One switch left blank on the 2005 model year cars, the power glass sunroof, stripped to help keep the curb weight down, has since been added to the standard equipment list for the 2006 model year.

Exterior
Honda has kept the Accord Hybrid understated in the styling department. This is "par for the course" in terms of Honda and body styling. This is not to say that the car is unattractive. Truth is, the Honda Accord Hybrid is virtually indistinguishable from a conventional V6 Honda Accord sedan, something many buyers could find appealing. Detailing on the Accord Hybrid is limited to a hybrid badge, unique wheels, trunk-mounted lip-spoiler, whip attenna and tailights. Adding up all these aerodynamic aids, the lightweight alloy wheels, lip-spoiler, front diffuser and whip antenna, the reduction in coefficient of drag (Cd) drops from 0.30 to 0.29. That little reduction is good enough to slim highway fuel consumption by 5 percent.

Styles and Options
The Honda Accord Hybrid comes in one four door sedan bodystyle. The only option remains a satellite-linked navigation system ($2000).

See also Honda Accord Fact Sheet.

High Points
* Powerful acceleration
* Additional torque provided by the electric motor
* Nearly seemless operation

Wikicars is impassioned by the role of the automobile as an enabler of personal freedom, exploration, and growth. Inspired by Wikipedia.org, Wikicars is propelled by car enthusiasts, working collaboratively to create the World's most comprehensive source of information about all things automotive. By all things automotive, we mean information about topics such as:

* New Cars, Trucks, and SUVs
* Used cars, Trucks and SUVs
* Hybrid Vehicles
* Vintage and Collectible Cars
* Road Trips
* Car Accessories
* Car Manufacturers
* Car People
* Well...you get the idea

The word "cars" and "car culture" are merely shorthand for the wonderful ability to venture out on one's own into the world. We want Wikicars to cover it all: if it primarily moves on wheels, has a means of propulsion, and the ability to transport you or your friends and family-- bring it on.

Encyclopedia or Guidebook?
Wikicars is both. Wikicars aspires to be the most comprehensive source of fact based information about automobiles-- a Wikipedia of cars. At the same time, Wikicars is a guidebook, offering the consensus opinion of our community about the good, the bad, and the ugly of the automive world. We believe this concensus opinion is extremely helpful. Opinion and reviews that reflect the collective views of many people are much more likely to be accurate and unbiased.

We have attempted to clearly label the opinion parts of the site. Some pages, such as Car Review Pages, are designed to be primarily opinion. Other pages have specifically labelled sections called "criticisms".

Wikicars Founding
Wikicars was started in June, 2006, by Internet Brands, the parent company of sites that include CarsDirect.com, Autos.com, and Autodata Solutions. These sites offer some of the web's richest automotive content, and, as a jump start, Wikicars has been seeded with some of InternetBrands content.

Jump In!
Hundreds of contributors have already begun expanding and improving Wikicars and we hope you will too! If you drive a car, you probably have knowledge or opinions that could help other car shoppers, owners, or enthusiasts.

If you would like to help, feel free to add to existing articles by clicking the Edit tab at the top of any page, or start a new article by searching on a topic of interest and writing what you want if no entry already exists for that topic. Remember, however, not to use any copywritten material; if you're not sure whether something is copywritten, err on the safe side and don't use it.
