The Chevrolet Tahoe (and similar GMC Yukon) is a full-size SUV from General Motors. Chevrolet and GMC sold two different-sized SUVs under their Blazer and Jimmy model names through the early 1990s. This situation changed when GMC rebadged the full-size Jimmy as the Yukon in 1992. Chevrolet waited until 1995's introduction of a four-door version to rebadge the compact S-10 Blazer as the Blazer, renaming the full-size Blazer as the Tahoe.

The Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon currently serve as General Motors' full-size SUVs. Lengthened wheelbase models are available for both as the Suburban for the Tahoe and Yukon XL for the Yukon. A luxury Denali model joined the Yukon lineup in 1998. As of 2002, a Denali version of the Yukon XL was also available as the Yukon Denali XL.

In the United States, the Tahoe is a popular alternative to the Ford Crown Victoria for police car use, especially in rural areas.
Recent Changes
The new redesigned 2007 Chevy Tahoe was launched in early January and features improved power, improved segment-leading fuel economy and increased interior refinement.
The biggest improvement for GM has been the Tahoe's fuel economy. With gas prices on the rise; this was much needed. Additional contributors to efficiency include a lower, wider front air dam, tighter tolerances and gaps between the fascias, lamps and grille openings, and improved front-end sealing that nearly eliminates air leak paths. These features all contribute to enhanced fuel economy and improved driving quietness, compared with previous models. The new 2007 Tahoe takes over at the top of the segment in sales, quality and comfort and has been the best-selling full-size SUV since 2001.

The 2007 Chevy Tahoe shares the new body design shared by the GM family of SUV’s. The 2007 Tahoe features a more angular design that supposedly gives the vehicle a more upscale appearance. The interior was significantly redesigned as well. It features a new wooded trim dashboard with new chrome accented instrument controls. New door panels as well as new seats were also added to the interterior.
Reliability
Chevrolet's full size SUV line has proven reliable in past years with minimal problems. The new design in 2006/2007 has also proven reliable, though oddities such as OBD-II onboard diagnostics readouts that are random have occured. <strike>No major engine or transmission problems have been reported</strike> Hundreds of reports have been found across various websites, blogs and review as well as some major news sources all reporting a MAJOR flaw in the transmissions in this vehicle. Almost all are reporting some slippage right before a loud bang, followed by immediate inability to drive forward, only to find that reverse and 2nd gear are the only things to work. most have had their vehicles serviced under warranty, and have been told that a "
"forward sprag clutch" had to be replaced. In some extreme cases people have reported having to replace thier transmission every 10,000 - 15,000 miles! In fact one person reportedly had his transmission replace 11 times! Please see http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f1043e0/00 titled: Chevy Tahoe Transmission Problems, which has more than 94 posts from a great many people with the exact same problem.

*RECALL ALERT: On August 29, 2008, GM issued a GM-wide recall (no.08V441000) affecting 857,735 vehicles built between 2006-2008 and equipped with heated windshield washer fluid option including the 2007-2008 PAGENAME, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL. The system was liable to short out causing cessation of function, smoke, possible fire and malfunctioning of other electronic systems in the car. GM urges owners of affected vehicles to go to their nearest local dealer so the problem can be remedied.
The Tahoe primarily competes with the following Full-size SUVs:
* Ford Expedition
* GMC Yukon
* Nissan Armada
* Toyota Sequoia

Hybrid Models
The Tahoe has a hybrid version, called the Tahoe Hybrid which uses a 6.0L V8 mated to the GM/DaimlerChrysler Advanced Hybrid System 2, producing 332 HP and 367 ft-lbs. of torque. With a 6,200 lbs. towing capacity, the SUV still manages to return a 21 mpg city/22 mpg highway Fuel Economy rating which is a marked improvement over the 5.3L V8's 14 mpg city and 20 mpg highway.

Unique Attributes
GM's Displacement on Demand Technology, in which half of the engine's cylinders are deactivated in low-demand driving situations. The power plant should get an estimated 20.5 miles per gallon on average in a combination of city and highway driving, which is on par with estimates for the Mid-Size Hummer H3, which gets roughly 16/19 MPG.

Resale Values
Criticisms
The 2007 Chevy Tahoe was featured on, and promoted through Donald Trump's The Apprentice, where the two teams put together a show for the top General Motors employees to learn about the new Tahoe. Also, The Apprentice sponsored an online contest where you can create your own commercial for the new Tahoe, and the winner's ad would air on national television. The online Chevy Apprentice make your own ad contest backfired causing many of the haters to make fun of its fuel usage and its link to global warming. A few of the ads had coarse language and sexually explicit content. The website is still up causing critics to think Chevrolet is slow to act to the negative publicity.

Generations
Fourth Generation (2007 - present)
For 2007 the GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe received different front fascias and hood. The GMC Yukon features a monolithic grille and headlights, while the Chevrolet Tahoe's grille is divided by a body colored bar similar to the chrome bar found on most of today's Tahoes. While the Tahoe's hood now features a design attribute obtruding from its otherwise smooth contour, the Yukon features a smooth hood with two slight curves on both sides of the hood. Both the new Yukon and Tahoe feature a more angular design that supposedly gives the vehicles a more upscale appearance. The interior was significantly redesigned as well. It features a new wooded trim dashboard with new chrome accented instrument controls. New door panels as well as new seats were also added to the interior.

Third Generation (2000 - 2006)
The vehicles were redesigned for the 2000 model year on the new GMT800 platform, still shared with the full-sized pickups. Two new engines replaced the old 5.7 L small-block, and while both were smaller, both produced more power. The manual transmission was dropped. In Mexico, the GMT800 Chevy Tahoe is called a Chevrolet Sonora.

Both vehicles received significant updates with only the grille and headlights distinguishing one from the other. Both vehicles now featured softer lines as part of a more aerodynamic design. The interior was also updated with new seats, dashboard, and door panels.

"StabiliTrak" stability control was offered for the first time in 2003, as were XM Satellite Radio, Bose audio, and a DVD entertainment system as the models continued to climb upmarket. Both engines received 10 hp (7.5 kW) more for 2004.

Second Generation (1992 - 1999)
In 1992, a new body style was introduced across the model line. For the first time, the new full-size Blazer was no longer a convertible. It now has a fixed hard top making the Blazer essentially a short-wheelbase, two-door version of the Suburban.

In 1995, Chevy renamed the Blazer to "Tahoe" and moved the "Blazer" name to a smaller SUV. In 2000 the two-door full-size Tahoe body style was discarded by Chevy, leaving only the larger four-door style.

The new GMC Yukon was introduced for 1992, while Chevrolet continued calling their version the Blazer. All were 2-door models through 1994. The Tahoe/Yukon were shorter than the Suburban on which they were based, but shared that vehicle's GMT400 platform. This was a true truck chassis, and was based on that used in the Chevrolet Silverado full-size pickup truck. Both two-door and four-door models were produced, as well as rear- and four-wheel drive.

"AutoTrac" full-time all-wheel drive and OnStar were added for 1998. The upscale Denali trim line to the Yukon appeared around this time as the vehicles became popular with wealthy families.

In Mexico, the Tahoe 2 doors was released in 1995 called Chevrolet Silverado, and 1998 was released Silverado 4 door, is available in Base, LS and luxury LT.

When the GMT800-based SUVs were released in 2000, a Tahoe Limited was produced for demand

First Generation (1969-1991)
This first generation Blazer shared a lot of similarities of Chevy pickups and Suburban of these early generations. As with the Suburban, the interior was open from the cab area to the trunk and cargo space in the rear, but similar to the Pick up's, the cargo area was uncovered. Powertrain and suspension features were based on the half-ton level; to ensure a higher GVWR one would have to go to a Suburban (which was offered in 1/2 and 3/4 ton) or pickup (1/2, 3/4 and 1-ton.)

Early marketing represented the Blazer as a 4x4 utility vehicle designed, for hunting and camping, and as a 'Recreational' vehicle -- for camping trips. Most were sold with a hardtop and fully configured, interestingly the base model Blazer came only with a seat for the driver. Passenger seating including Rear Seating, the hardtop and softtop were all "optional". One of the most popular options was the 4x4, but a two-wheel drive model was available.

Design Quirks and Oddities
The makers at Chevy appear not to have driven the car around much. If the had, they would have noticed your knee can knock the 4 wheel drive knob, situated below and to the left of the steering wheel, into 4 wheel auto, high or low, depending on how much you brush against it as you exit the vehicle. If you don't notice it, your vehicle will be in 4 wheel drive and hurt mileage. Other oddities are the cup holders are too small for 1.5 liter water bottles, they got rid of the coin holders and sunglass closet. The throw for the brights on the turn signal switch is too long, requiring most to remove their hand from the wheel to go back to low beams. I have 50,000 miles on my 2007 and already needed a replacement battery, available only at the dealership as most OEM have not started manufacturing parts yet. When remote start is used, often but not always the air conditioner is on high when I get in the vehicle, even on cold mornings. You would think they would have noticed this in testing.
