The Nissan Armada (called the Pathfinder Armada in 2004, became simply "Armada" in 2005) is Nissan's full-size sport utility vehicle. It shares its body-on-frame F-Alpha platform with the Nissan Titan pickup truck, Nissan Xterra SUV, Nissan Frontier pickup truck, and Nissan Pathfinder SUV. An upscale version of the Armada is sold as the Infiniti QX56. All Armadas are currently built in Canton, Mississippi.

The Armada has a 5.6 L 305 hp (227 kW) VK56DE V8 engine, a 5-speed automatic transmission, and a choice of rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

The Armada was designed for North America and introduced for the 2004 model year. The switch to the Armada name was made later that year.

The Dodge Durango is a mid-sized SUV from DaimlerChrysler's Dodge brand. It debuted in the 1998 model year and was redesigned for 2004. It fills the gap in the Dodge lineup since the cancellation of the Dodge Ramcharger in 1993. The Durango is produced at the Newark Assembly plant in Newark, Delaware.

1998-2003
The Durango was launched just after the second generation Dodge Dakota on which it was based (during the late 1980s, Chrysler designers proposed building an SUV version of the Dakota pickup; this was shelved when the Jeep division was about to release the Grand Cherokee as their flagship SUV). It is a very sturdy truck-based SUV designed to hold up to seven passengers comfortably and tow up to 8,000 lb with ease. The 4.7 L PowerTech V8 replaced the 5.2 L engine for 2000. In that same year a special high performance version called the R/T was released with a 5.9 L 245 hp V8 engine.

The second generation Durango debuted shortly before the companion Dakota. Like the Dakota, it has much in common with the large Dodge Ram pickup, including a fully-boxed frame. It is 7 in. longer, 2 in. wider, and 3 in. taller than the previous model. Chrysler will introduce its own version of the Durango, the Chrysler Aspen, for the 2007 model year.

2007
The 2007 model was reworked to halt a sales decline, debuting at the Dallas Auto Show in April 2006. It includes a reworked front clip with a new fascia, grille, hood, and headlamps as well as updated fenders and wheels. New features include electronic stability program, tire pressure monitoring system, rear park assist, and a one-touch turn signal. The 2007 model also has a reworked floor, second-row seats, and electrical system in preparation for the 2008 hybrid version.

Engines
* 2004–present — 3.7 L PowerTech V6, 210 hp (157 kW) at 5200 rpm and 235 ft·lbf (319 N·m) at 4000 rpm
* 2004–present — 5.7 L Hemi V8, 335 hp (250 kW) at 5200 rpm and 370 ft·lbf (502 N·m) at 4200 rpm

Rumors
In 2008, DaimlerChrysler is expected to introduce a hybrid version of the Durango which uses the shared GM/DaimlerChrysler Advanced Hybrid System 2. It is expected to use the 5.7 L Hemi V8.

The Ram is a fullsize pickup truck from DaimlerChrysler's Dodge brand. The name was first used in 1981 on the redesigned D Series, though it came from the hood ornament used in the 1930s and 1940s trucks.

The Ram was Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year for 1994, and the Ram Heavy Duty won that award for 2003.

The Ram is built at Saltillo Truck Assembly in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, Saint Louis Assembly North in Fenton, Missouri, and Warren Truck Assembly in Warren, Michigan.

1981 to 1993: The 'D' Trucks
The first-generation Ram trucks, introduced for 1981, kept the previous generation's model designations: "D" meant rear wheel drive while the "W" Power Ram meant four wheel drive. Like other domestic makers, Dodge used 150 to mean a half-ton truck, 250 to indicate a ¾-ton, and 350 for one-tons. Standard cab, "Club" extended cab, and crew cab versions were offered along with 6.5 ft and 8 ft bed lengths and "Utiline" and "Sweptline" styled boxes. Externally, the first-generation Rams were facelifted versions of the previous generation Dodge D Series pickups (known as the Adventurer) dating back to 1972 with wraparound taillights and square headlights.

100 models were added for 1984, replacing the previous "Miser" trim on low-output manual transmission Slant-6 trucks. A "Ram-Trac" shift-on-the-fly transfer case was added for 1985, and both the crew cab and Utiline flared bed were dropped for 1986. Also for 1986, a new crosshair grille appeared. The 5.2 L engine received electronic fuel injection for 1988.

The engines were updated for 1989. The Slant-6 was dropped in favor of a 3.9 L fuel injected V6 with 25% more power. The 5.9 L V8 also received fuel injection that year for 20 hp (15 kW) more power. Rear anti-lock brakes were also made standard.

The Ram 100 models were renamed "150S" for 1990, and the exterior was redesigned the next year. The engines wore the "Magnum" name for 1992 and 1993 with much higher output.

The D Series trucks sold poorly compared to the Ford F-Series and the General Motors C/K trucks, with just under 100,000 units sold most years of their production.

B-Series Cummins arrives
A Cummins turbodiesel option was added for big (400 ft.lbf / 542 Nm) torque needs. This engine, part of the Cummins B Series, is the largest straight-6 engine ever produced for a passenger vehicle. These early B Series engines have been known to go 350,000 miles before their first overhaul.

The Ram line was redesigned for 1994 and was an instant hit. It featured a semi truck-look front end with separate fenders and an oversized grille; but it was the 8.0 L V10 engine and its 450 ft.lbf (610 Nm) of torque that was noticed by serious users. Models were now the 1500 (half-ton), 2500 (¾-ton), and 3500 (one-ton).

A natural gas version of the 5.2 L engine debuted for 1995. In 1998, Dodge introduced the "Quad-Cab", which used rear-hinged pillarless doors in the back for a wide cab opening. The Cummins ISB engine, introduced in 1999, was an unusual multi-valve pushrod engine.

The redesigned 1994 Ram was a tremendous sales success, with sales rocketing from 100,000 units in 1993 to 240,000 in 1994, 280,000 in 1995, and nearly 400,000 in 1996. Sales of this generation peaked at just over 400,000 in 1999 before declining against the redesigned Ford and GM trucks. By 2001, the Ram was back to 350,000 sales.
2002 to 2005: The 'DR' Trucks
The third-generation Ram debuted for 2002. This represented a major update including all new frame, suspension, power teams, interiors, and sheetmetal. It included an even larger grille, and special models kept interest up as most competitors had adopted the Ram's separate-fender look. The Cummins ISB Diesel was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2004. The four wheel drive light duty trucks (1500 series) lost their live axles in trade for an independent front suspension, but the heavy duty (2500 and 3500 series) retained the live axles for maximum durability and load capacity.

The redesigned DR trucks reignited sales, with 400,000 sold in 2002 and nearly 450,000 sold in 2003, a new high point for the Ram name. At the same time, both Ford and GM trucks were declining from a 2001 peak over 900,000 to the 850,000 area. But the Ram's sales could not keep up with the eleventh-generation F-150 and the strong Nissan Titan in 2004 and 2005, with 400,543 Rams sold that year. The Toyota Tundra had never posed much of a threat, but a much larger 2007 model may erode Dodge sales further.

Special Rams
* SRT-10 This version is a regular or quad-cab body with the Dodge Viper's V10 engine, massive Pirelli 22" rimmed tires, custom lowered suspension, unique bucket seats, full body kit, and a spoiler. The 2004 version was available only in a single cab with a 6 speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter. For 2005, Dodge debuted a Quad Cab version of the Viper V10 powered truck. It now has a 48RE four speed auto transmission that was taken from the Heavy Duty Rams with the Cummins engine. In 2004, the truck won the Guinness record of "World's Fastest Production Pickup Truck" of 154.587mph (247,3 km/h).
* Power Wagon - Introduced for 2005, the Power Wagon comes with the 5.7 L new Hemi engine, locking differentials, disconnecting anti-roll bars, oversized off-road tires and a winch.
* Daytona - Introduced for 2005, the Ram Daytona features 20 in chrome wheels, custom paint, the Hemi engine, and a tall rear spoiler reminescent of the famous Dodge Charger Daytona from the late 1960s.
* Rumble Bee - The Rumble Bee edition was mainly a trim package on the Hemi Ram. It was only available on regular cab/short-box pickups and included lower body cladding, a hood scoop, and a specially-trimmed interior. On the rear of the box was a stripe with a "Rumble Bee" picture, meant to be reminiscent of the Super Bee.

Hybrid
Dodge announced a mild hybrid version of the Ram, dubbed the Contractor's Special, in 2003. However, the schedule for delivery slipped as Dodge backed away from the vehicle. The press currently reports that the hybrid Ram will be available only for fleet purchasers and will not enter mass production. It offered an AC electrical outlet panel for running an entire jobsite worth of power tools.
2006 to date: The 'DR/DH' Refresh
The 2006 Dodge Ram is an updated version of the previous generation, the most obvious being a restyled front end which some have derided as being too Dakota-like. One notable version is the Mega Cab, featuring a 6-foot cargo box and 20 inches of extra cab space, allowing seating for six with rear recliners. Also, a full screen mapping in-dash navigation system in a restyled dashboard is now an option.

Another change for 2006 is Chrysler's Multi-Displacement System on the Hemi V8 engine in the Ram. A new center console with built-in cup holders and side pockets is a new option on Quad Cabs. Inferno Red became a new extra-cost color.

The standard cab SRT-10 received an all new center console that contained a shorter, more direct 6-speed shifter. Also Inferno Red and Mineral Gray became available on the SRT-10 in addition to Black, replacing Flame Red and Bright Silver.

1994 to 2001: The 'BR/BE' Trucks

A new center console with built-in cup holders and side pockets is a new option on 2 wheel drive Quad Cabs.

1994 to 2001: The 'BR/BE' Trucks

Another change for 2006 will be the availability of Chrysler's Multi-Displacement System on the Hemi V8 engine in the Ram.

The Cadillac Escalade is a full-size luxury sport utility vehicle sold by the General Motors Corporation luxury brand, Cadillac. It was the division's first major entry into the popular SUV market. The Escalade was introduced for the 1999 model year in response to German and Japanese competitors and to Ford's 1998 release of the Lincoln Navigator. The Escalade project went into production only 10 months after it was approved. The standard Escalade is built in Arlington, Texas.

The Escalade was originally based on sister company GMC's Yukon Denali, but was redesigned for the 2002 model year to make its appearance fall more in line with Cadillac's new design theme. The Escalade was not the first Chevrolet-based Cadillac: the first-generation Seville and mid-1980s Cadillac Cimarron were based on entry-level Chevy vehicles (Nova and Cavalier, respectively). As of today, the Escalade ESV (a luxurious Chevy Suburban), especially the Escalade EXT pickup are, together with the Cadillac BLS, the only Cadillac vehicles made outside of the United States, since the demise of the German-built Cadillac Catera in 2001. Both the Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT are made in Silao, Mexico.

Recent Changes
The Escalade will move to the new "GMT900" platform for the 2007 model year. Its introduction was accelerated as sales began slipping. The regular Escalade will be joined by a stretched ESV version as well as a new EXT pickup truck. The 2007 Escalade was the official vehicle of Super Bowl XL, with MVP Hines Ward being awarded one of the first Escalades produced.

Styles and Major Options
Body styles
The Cadillac Escalade comes in three body styles, the regular wagon version, the longer ESV and the EXT pickup truck.

Escalade EXT
The Escalade EXT pickup truck (released alongside its twin, the Chevrolet Avalanche) was introduced in 2002. It features a "Convert-a-Cab" composite pickup bed that can be expanded into the truck's cab through a bottom-hinged door. Like the Avalanche, the EXT has four full-size doors and seating for five. The EXT was only offered with the 6.0L High Output engine. high-intensity discharge headlights were offered for 2003. The Escalade EXT also appears in the movie, "The Matrix Reloaded" along with the CTS in roduct placement ads.

The Escalade EXT was created as a direct competitor to the failed Lincoln Blackwood, a pickup truck based on the Navigator SUV. Currently, it competes with the Lincoln Mark LT, another Navigator-based pickup truck that made its debut in 2006.

Escalade ESV
The extended-length Escalade ESV (based on the Chevy Suburban and GMC Yukon XL) was introduced in 2003. The Escalade ESV is also Cadillac's most expensive SUV with prices ranging from $59,680 for a base "Standard" version to $71,050 for a top-of-the-line "Escalade Platinum".

The Escalade line has proven very popular with after-market tuners, who personalize vehicles for usually affluent customers. While such work is not done by the Cadillac factory, much can be ordered through a Cadillac dealer and done by third-party companies. Much like the customized Cadillacs of the 1970s (during the "pimpmobile craze"), popular modifications include larger wheels, increased engine performance and custom paint. Due to its expensive parts and exposure from celebrity ownership, the Escalade has also been proven to be popular with car thieves as well, becoming the most frequently stolen vehicle from 2001-2003 according to the Highway Loss Data Institute.

The Escalade in Pop-Culture
The Escalade has been featured in many hip-hop music videos, and it may have been the reason for Cadillac's recent popularity among the urban demographic. James Gandolfini, who plays the character of "Tony Soprano," drives around New Jersey in an Cadillac Escalade ESV in HBO's "The Sopranos". It continues to be popular among younger actors and athletes.
Gas Mileage
While power is absolute, it won't come at the cost of fuel efficiency with the new Escalade. The all new 403-hp 6.2L Vortec V8 VVT engine produces the highest horsepower of any SUV that can seat seven or more passengers, while also offering unsurpassed highway fuel economy in its class.

As seen on the FuelEconomy.gov website, the City/Highway MPG averages for the 2007 Cadillac Escalade are as follows:

* City: 13 MPG
* Highway: 19 MPG
* Combined: 15 MPG

Reliability
In an online review done by Autos.com, the Cadillac Escalade EXT came in seventh and the Escalade and Escalade ESV tied for eighth.

Generations
Third generation (2007–present)
The Escalade uses an all-aluminum 6.2L Vortec V8. The pushrod engine boasts variable valve timing, a first in a mass-produced non-overhead cam engine. The system adjusts both intake and exhaust timing between two settings. This engine produces 403-hp (301 kW) and 417 ft·lbs (565 N·m). A new six-speed 6L80 Hydra-Matic automatic transmission will be used. The new body boasts a 0.363 drag coefficient, though the large frontal area will hurt aerodynamics.

One major new feature absent from the production vehicle is American Axle's "I-Ride" rear independent suspension module. Instead, a conventional five-link suspension is used.

Production of the redesigned Escalade began at Arlington Assembly in January 2006. It will be priced from $57,280, though the rear wheel drive version at this price will not be produced until August. The more expensive all wheel drive version will be produced first, followed by the long wheelbase ESV and EXT pickup in June.

A special Platinum ESV model will follow in 2007. GM's Active Fuel Management will come in 2008.

The Escalade can accelerate to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 6.8 seconds. Fuel economy is rated at 14 MPG (16.8 L/100 km) in the city and 19 MPG (13.8 L/100 km) on the highway.

Engines:
* 2007-present — 6.2L Vortec 6200]] V8, 400-hp (298kW)

Second Generation/Origins (2002-2006)
The Escalade was not offered for the 2001 model year, but returned completely redesigned for the 2002 model year. Rear-wheel drive was standard, as was a 5.3L V8, with four-wheel drive and the special High-Output Vortec 6000 6.0L V8 engine as options.

The "StabiliTrak" stability control system was upgraded to a four-wheel version for 2003 and power-adjustable pedals were added. For 2004, 20-inch chrome wheels (also known as "dubs") were offered, and XM satellite radio, second-row bucket seats, and a tire pressure monitoring system were all made standard on all Escalades except the EXT. The 5.3L engine was dropped for 2005 and the OnStar system was upgraded.

Engines:
* 2002-2003 5.3L Vortec 5300 V8, 285-hp (213kW)
* 2004 5.3L Vortec 5300 V8, 295-hp (220 kW)
* 2002-2005 6.0L High-Output Vortec 6000 V8, 345-hp (257kW)

First Generation/Origins (1999-2000)
The first Escalade was very similar to the top Denali trim of the GMC Yukon. It shared all of that truck's exterior panels, which were themselves differentiated at the front from the regular Yukon/Tahoe. Even the wheels were identical, with the GMC center caps replaced by Cadillac crests.

The Escalade also used the same 5.7L Vortec 5700 V8 at 255-hp (190kW). All first-generation Escalades featured all-wheel drive. For 2000, unique vertical rear doors were added.

Worldwide
Design quirks and oddities
Though they differ in body style, the Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, and Escalade EXT share drivetrains, chassis architecture and styling cues.
