The new redesigned 2007 [[Chevrolet|Chevy]] Tahoe was launched in early January and features improved power, improved segment-leading fuel economy and increased interior refinement.
The biggest improvement for [[General Motors|GM]] has been the Tahoe's fuel economy. With gas prices on the rise; this was much needed. Additional contributors to efficiency include a lower, wider front air dam, tighter tolerances and gaps between the fascias, lamps and grille openings, and improved front-end sealing that nearly eliminates air leak paths. These features all contribute to enhanced fuel economy and improved driving quietness, compared with previous models. The new 2007 Tahoe takes over at the top of the segment in sales, quality and comfort and has been the best-selling full-size SUV since 2001.

The 2007 [[Chevrolet|Chevy]] Tahoe was featured on, and promoted through Donald Trump's ''The Apprentice'', where the two teams put together a show for the top [[General Motors]] employees to learn about the new Tahoe. Also, The Apprentice sponsored an online contest where you can create your own commercial for the new Tahoe, and the winner's ad would air on national television. The online [[Chevrolet|Chevy]] Apprentice make your own ad contest backfired causing many of the users to make fun of its fuel usage and its link to global warming. A few of the ads had coarse language and sexually explicit content. The website is still up causing critics to think [[Chevrolet]] is slow to act to the negative publicity.

As with the [[Chevrolet Suburban|Suburban]], the interior was open from the cab area to the trunk and cargo space in the rear, but similar to the Pick up's, the cargo area was uncovered. Powertrain and suspension features were based on the half-ton level; to ensure a higher GVWR one would have to go to a Suburban (which was offered in 1/2 and 3/4 ton) or pickup (1/2, 3/4 and 1-ton.)

The new Envoy replaces the Jimmy name in GMC's lineup. While it still shares a platform with the [[Chevrolet TrailBlazer]], the styling is differentiated. Early versions used the 270 [[HP|hp]] (201 kW) [[GM Vortec engine|Vortec 4200 engine]], while later Envoys stepped up to 275 [[HP|hp]] (205 kW). This rating grew to 291 [[HP|hp]] for the 2006 model year. All Envoys have 4-wheel [[disc brakes]]. A [[Displacement on Demand]] 5.3 L V8 was used beginning in 2005.

One unique element of the new Envoy line was the availability of a 3-row 7-passenger '''[[GMC Envoy XL|Envoy XL]]''' version. This vehicle is 16 in (406 mm) longer and has a higher roofline to allow easier access to the third row of seats. This roof is disguised by standard roof racks.

Production of the XL model was handled by the Oklahoma City Assembly plant in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The XL model ceased to exist after the 2006 model year, because the plant there then closed on February 20, 2006. The Envoy XL will be replaced by the [[GMC Acadia|Acadia]] for 2007.

===XUV===
The five-passenger '''Envoy XUV''', introduced in 2003, is an attempt to create a crossbreed of pickup truck and SUV. It features a retractable rear roof section that slides forward, giving an open-topped load area. A 'MidGate' can be raised to partition the load area off from the passenger compartment; this is solid and plastic-lined to waist height and with a retractable glass partition for the top half. The two-way tailgate can either hinge sideways or drop down; the tailgate glass retracts into the solid tailgate. The cargo area is waterproofed and fitted with a drainage system, allowing it to be hosed down easily for cleaning.

The advantage of the Envoy XUV over a pickup truck or a more truck-like crossbreed such as the [[Chevrolet Avalanche]] (which shares the MidGate idea) is that the cargo area, with retractable roof and rear glass closed, the cargo area is sealed, full-height and lockable, thus making it close to a SUV. The disadvantages include a much smaller cargo area and breakable side glass.

The Envoy XUV's retractable roof is reminiscent of the Studebaker Wagonaire of the 1960s.

Sales were projected at 30,000 per year for this version (approximately a third of Envoy production), but have been much slower with just over 12,000 sold in 2004. GM decided to discontinue XUV production on March 15, 2005.

===Denali===
In 2005, a Denali [[Luxury car|luxury]] version of the Envoy became available. Both the standard length wheelbase Envoy as well as the Envoy XL are available with the Denali trim option. The Envoy Denali features the hallmark bullet pattern grille and an upgraded interior with [[luxury car]]-like features such as heated power seats, extensive woodgrain trim, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Prices for the Envoy Denali range from $37,145 USD to $42,750 USD and prices for the Envoy XL Denail range from $38,575 USD to $43,895 USD.
