A distance sensor is an electronic device that translates each rotation of the driveshaft into several electronic pulses. The number of pulses generated are directly proportional to the distance traveled. These are used by:
- Speedometers to indicate the speed.
- Odometers to indicate the distance traveled.
- Taximeters to determine the ride fare.
